Posted 3 months ago Tonight I am going to attend a weekly meeting at a volunteer only Fire Department. At this meeting I will be turning in my application to join the department and speak to the Chief. I am most likely going to wear a suit, but thought I would double check if anyone thought that it was neccisary. I deffinetly am all for wearing a suit when interviewing and things like that. This meeting is when they do there weekly training, it is from 6pm to 10pm though. Any thoughts on the matter are very appreciated. Thank you all "We don't come to bow. We come to conquer." |

| Posted 3 months ago To me it would all depend on the size of the dept if this is a back wood redneck dept i would just wear a nice polo and some nice jeans or slacks. |

| Posted 3 months ago Go as you planned. But nothing says you can't take a bag with sweats or something to train with them in. |

| Posted 3 months ago A volunteer department monthly meeting is casual attire where I come from and I have seen guys come from their jobs straight to meetings. To me it doesn't make a difference if you go in a tuxedo or your birthday suit, what matters is that you keep an open mind like a sponge open and pay attention to the old guys---the ones in the corner smoking cigarettes, drinking coffee and shooting the breeze. ( don't start smoking though if you haven't already). The most of the younger guys at departments can be cocky and hotheaded. Wear clean and neat clothes suits are for your oral interviews in paid departments. Shorts are okay and so are sweats. Bottom line go in something comfortable , be confident but not cocky and wear stuff that you aren't afraid to get dirty because if they issue you gear and show you around the station even if they were just in a parade, stuff is dirty. | Posted 3 months ago Thank you all very much for the advice. I ended up going in a suit but didn't wear the jacket. The meetings here are evey week because it is meeting/training. I am glad I dressed nice, because of the weather they canceled the training, so I ended up sorta just having a one on one interview with the Chief. It wasn't long, I think 15 min or so, he had a class to teach. However, in the short time we talked he accepted me in, and asked me to come back next Wed night for a (see where your at / catch you up to speed the way we do things) meeting with the Lt. Anyway thank you all again very much for the input. I am always looking for advice so the more the better. Thank you all, "We don't come to bow. We come to conquer." |
