There are several of us here were are/were military firefighters.  The Air Force, as far as I know, still uses military personnel as their primary firefighting force.  Whereas other branches have "contracted out" to DOD (government employees) firefighters.  If you are active duty, then the usual military fitness standards apply.  The trick is getting into the firefighter field.  If you are considering joining, do your research before you even talk to a recruiter.  Recruiters get paid to get people in the military.  Anything they promise you, get it in writing!!!  Otherwise you may end up on the front lines as an infantryman.  Visit the different military websites; research what you really want to do.  If you join, make sure you sign up for the College Fund and the G.I. Bill.  They are two seperate things!  I hope this helps.

If you want to get more details, feel free to send me a private message.  Just don't sign up before you get what you want.

The United States Marine Corps has a Firefighter MOS. Of course you have to go to boot camp and go through extensive training but you will go to a MOS school I hear which is just like the air force. Just like emtjad said,"make sure you get everything in writing." Do tons of research! trust me! I used to be a recruiter..... Make sure it's what you really want! Look into all branches. As far as I know. The Air Force and the Marine Corps has a firefighting MOS. I'm sure other branches do to.

"Hell, these are Marines. Men like them held Guadalcanal and took Iwo Jima. Bagdad ain't shit." "Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem." United States Marine Corps
