Posted 4 months ago What is the worst hazardous material you ever had to handle or responded to the scene of a spill where you could not handle it? |

| Posted 4 months ago A large scale meth lab. We had to call in 3 other departments including Phenix City HazMat teams. The lab consisted of 3 single wide trailers. One of them exploded, and the other 2 caught fire as a result of the explosion/fire of the first trailer. |

| Posted 4 months ago Ours would probably be a Meth Lab as well. Our FD didn't do anything tough, the County HazMat Team came in and we just stood by with an Engine. |

| Posted 4 months ago from my military days my job was fuels and hazourdous substances but i think the worst or scariest i dealt with was nuclear material, which was flying out on an aircraft. we had to load it in full kit then wait in quick reaction vehicles still in full kit, until it took off and got 80 miles out from our base where it would be taken over by the next base and their team. if the aircraft had gone down in our area we would have had to have driven there asap-------normal road rules would have gone out of the window plus despite the fact that local emergancy services were on standby for the flight we had priority over them and they could not go near the scene without our sayso. thank god nothing ever went wrong but the adrenilin was pumpimg everytime we did this |

Ohh not us, we had to put the fire out, overhaul and help the HazMat team when they got there. It was because it was a very large scale meth lab. |

| Posted 4 months ago well I work for a sub-contractor that has the contract with a major chemical company to do repackaging of hazardous materials at their plant. So I deal with alittle bit of everything we handle all types of waste and packs. They recieve packs from all kinds companies and incenterate them for clean disposal in a hazardous land fill. |

| Posted 4 months ago Worst Haz-Mat experience? 2005, Staurday Night, 2330 hours, firehouse bathroom after a Baked Bean eating contest......Scariest night of my life..... JUST KIDDING!!! I am fairly new to Haz-Mat as is our County, and we have not had to respond to any serious incidents yet, but we have an Interstate highway with heavy Truck Traffic, and CP Railway with numerous full tank cars of various methyl ethyl badshtuff, including, as per the rail company itself in a memo to our County Chiefs Council, a car containing Hydrogen Cyanide about 150 times a year....talk about bad s&%*! | Posted 4 months ago 50 gallons of bug killer. Hours trying to figure out how to get if off the road. Guy in charge made a big deal out of it and all we ended up doing after almost 6 hrs on scene was wash it away. |

most pesticides are that simple to deal with----loads of water and just be careful you dont get it in your eyes, swallow itor get the concentrate on your skin. loads of water and dilute them and wash them away, worst after effect is there arn't many bugs in that area for a while. really the same thing with herbicides, 1 of the 300 gallon sprayers we use on the farm split going down the road and dumped all 300 gallons on the road. we never called the fire dept we just took our own 1000 gallon water tank down there and dumped water on it. that patch of roadside looked like the desert for a while but the green came back pretty quick. vehicles carrying this stuff ,including farm sprayers all have to carry the safety data sheets for the contents and they pretty much cover everything you need to know and what to do |

| Posted 4 months ago I recently took the Hazmat class from dupont about railroad hazmat. And I learned that some of the worlds dangerous shit is carried in those tank cars. I also learned that if you have a tank car carrying beer, that it will knock you off your feet if you drink it for the simple reason that it has not been filtered or diluted. We joked around saying that if a beer tank car does derail we will bring straws. "Hell, these are Marines. Men like them held Guadalcanal and took Iwo Jima. Bagdad ain't shit."
