Darker colors don't show dirt as much. I have worn the white shirt. I hated it. I prefer navy blue, regardless of rank.

We all run dark navy, except for chiefs.  They want us to try out the saftey green/annoying bright neon snot green for shirts, but I don't think they will last, show dirt too easily.  They do have the advantage of standing out though.

Due the North Texas heat, we stay away from the Navy......and opted on a gray.  They look pretty sharp and don't draw the heat as badly as the Navy.  With the red-dirt/clay up here, white is definitely not an option.

When I was in the military and working on the airfield, we could wear a red or navy blue t-shirt, the captains wore a light blue button up shirt and of course the chiefs wore white.  Everyone in the volunteer department wore a navy blue t-shirt.  In the private amublance business, everyone wears white collar, button up shirts with black pocket flaps and black epaulettes.  The only distinction is that the medics wear a patch over the left breast pocket and basics don't.

Everyone on our dept wears a navy blue T-Shirt or sweatshirt. The exception is our dress shirt- White for Chief and Navy for everyone else.

Local ambulance service (AMR) is white for everyone.

I like the grey idea.

Up here in Michigan, the Michigan Department of Corrections wears grey shirts.  There are a few ambulance services who wear grey also.

My Department issues light blue shirts for all line personnel (Firefighters,Lieutenants and Captains). Deputy Chiefs, the Chief of the Department and day crew (Code Enforcement/Fire Prevention) wear white shirts. Training/Safety Officer wears dark Navy uniform. All personnel wear black turnouts regardless of rank. Black helmets for all but the Deputy Chiefs.

For everyday station wear i prefer shorts and a golf shirt. Our dress uniforms are white for line officers and light blue for FF's.
