Ok I am only a certified paramedic and will take my test to get license at the end of the month. But I can tell you this I have no intention of having a ParaGod attitude. I will try everyday to save a life or make someone's transition to the other side hopefully as easy I possibly can, after all I am only human and can only do so much.

I have worked with a few and know a few that have that attitude, makes it hard to learn anything from them- I don't want to be like that at all.

I had the best Preceptor during my internship, I can only hope I can be as good as he is.

Hope that came out right

It came out right and you are correct. Some finish paramedic school with a really wierd attitude. I don't know why or where it comes from. Maybe it is a cover for their insecurity. I remember when I was a new paramedic. I was SCARED. I knew that I had a long way to go before I would start to become comfortable with my new role. That was ten years ago and I am more comfortable now, but I still try to read/study daily.

Good luck on the test.

Thank you Tsmith, I will need it. I am like you scared of all the things I will be able to do and those I can't help and I won't have my peceptor by my side while I am doing it. The only thing I am comfortable with IV's. I can get a vein in the pinky finger so at least Iknow I can get fluid to them. Yes I tried it and you have to use a 24g. I learn it from a military medic.

Good Luck Froog. Just remember "Is my Scene Safe!" I don't know how many of the National Reg. Test questions dealt with Scene safety but it was a lot. Smith1 said it right. You will be scared, and if your not than I wouldn't want you working on me! That fear will make you better. It is a fear that gets easier. Just don't stop reviewing, it's a never ending challenge. One book that will help you review is "The Merck manual". Just go to the local bookstore and buy it!

I don't know about walking on water, but I have witnessed the miracle of birth, and the tragedy of death.  Being a medic causes you to experience every emotion in the spectrum; sometimes all within the same hour.  It's ok to be fearful when you are just getting started.  As you work as a medic, you start to get used to things but everyday is different.  That's what is so unique about our jobs.  You never know what is going to happen from one minute to the next.  Good luck on the test.

Want to start by wishing you luck on the test. I have been in the fire service since 91 been a medic for only 3 yrs. It is crazy to see peoples attitudes on the job but I think those people are pretty much that way anyhow and they just happen to be a medic. We also get that way, a little, because we work alone without anyone over our shoulder and it is up to us to treat it right. I love being a medic more then a firefighter because we dont have much fire and i feel like I am actually doing something good which is why we are here. 1 piece of advice. Treat people like they are kings or queens because you can treat them like crap medically and they wont know, you will still get a letter in your file stating how good and nice you were. If you treat them like crap personally and save there life you will also get a letter in your file stating how mean and rude you were. My 2 cents. Enjoy and good luck.
