Fire From Burn Barrel Destroys Abandoned N.C. House

Yellowbrix

August 07, 2008

MORGAN’S CORNER- Embers from a burn barrel sparked a house fire this afternoon.

Shortly before 4 p.m., firefighters from Pasquotank-Newland and South Mills volunteer fire departments were called to a brush fire that had quickly spread to an abandoned house on the 1500 block of Millpond Road.

It took about 20 minutes to contain the fire, said Pasquotank-Newland Chief Robbie Whitehead.

Fire Inspector Danny Fogg said that embers from a burn barrel on a neighboring property got caught in the wind and carried into the other yard. The fire quickly spread to the abandoned house.

He said there was fire and smoke damage throughout the structure.

There were no injuries reported.

Conditions are bad for outside burning. We may have a busy season this year. Pray for rain.
