Yesterday John R. Glenn, a volunteer firefighter and a Firelink.com member, was driving northbound on Illinois 122 around 5:10 a.m. when he lost control of his car and struck a utility pole, Coroner Beth Kimmerling said in a statement.
John was 20 years old, and a volunteer with Stanford-based Allin Township Fire Protection District. At the time of the accident, he had a passenger in the car, who was unharmed and moving around when rescue crews arrived. Both men were taken to the local hospital where Glenn was pronounced dead at 6 a.m.
A dense fog advisory that had been in effect for McLean County and area counties through early Thursday expired at 9 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. Neither men were wearing seat belts, according to a crash report from Illinois State Police.
Firelink.com was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of John Glenn and extend our warmest regards to his family and community.
