Paid firefighters across the nation battle with budget cuts, lack of overtime allocation, and department closures. In a profession that seeks to protect every citizen (including the lawmakers who slash funding) from death and destruction, firefighters must also stop to consider their own well-being. In light of keeping FireLink members up-to-date with fire and rescue information, we’ve put together a top ten guide to the highest paying cities for firefighters. Click on the next button at the bottom of your screen to start at number ten in our list, or click any link below to be taken directly to more information on that city’s salary.

I think the above information is wrong, I think the city of Richmond Ca is higher paid then Oakland but I may be wrong. Richmond is the highest crime rate.

I do the fob because I love the work and am living the dream as a fireman, but the money is all worth. Iam all about the money and big toys. The work always comes first, then the play. The more money is always a bonus.

The fact is there is so much sentiment these days about the value of our "first responders" yet when communities are asked to support these functions with dollars, many say "no". There is only one way to get people and politicians to put their money where there mouth is - firefighters representing themselves in a well educated, business-like and competent Union.

As is always the case, those who risk their lives going the most dangerous jobs don't get paid as they should. They do it for the love of the job. If they did it for the money, half of them would be spending a few sessions on a shrinks couch. It *is* about the money, or lack thereof for the FF's. It's called the greedy keep getting greedier and lining their pockets with money that should go to first responders.

and it is not all about the money...but if you live in a community that can pay, they should pay those FF's.

The Lowest states are also the ones that I have experienced the most anti-union sentiment from. It is not surprising that these communities are not taking care of the first responders that risk their lives for them.....and sometimes it is the FF's who are anti-union...c'mon guys we have the best union ever whose sole focus is on the members and their benefits and not any of the sterotypical negative union stuff. Organize already.

Wow, and to think I USED to live in Seattle, WA. But I am not a paid firefighter either, not yet anyway. I know the cost of living up there is a little higher but not by much... and the gas prices these days don't help much either. I took a significant pay cut when I moved from North to South.
